2018 UM USM Doktor Perubatan MBBS Interview Temu Duga

Hey everyone. Yup, this is just a random blog, I just want to share some info about the interview for Program Doktor Perubatan in USM and MBBS in UM for 2018/2019 session. (Because I found that there are not much info about these interviews 😭😭😭)

First of all, I want to share about the MMI system, which stands for Multi Mini Interview. Both universities apply this system (I'm not sure whether this apply to all other courses or only medic)

USM KUBANG KERIAN KELANTAN

This is how the surat tawaran (offer letter) looks like.

The interview location is right behind the USM hospital in Kubang Kerian USM. There are shop lots opposite to the HUSM, so its a walking distance to the interview location.

This is the hospital USM, HUSM.

These are the shop lots just opposite of HUSM.
There are a few hotel (those small ones, just above the shops) that you can stay overnight there. I stayed at Avee Budget Inn (https://ms-my.facebook.com/aveebudgetinnhotel/). There is Mydin Supermarket and Pasaraya Nirwana Maju, Bank Rakyat (I don't remember other banks), so you don't have to worry about your food and also your transport to the interview location.

If you are coming here through airplane, the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport which is located in Kota Bharu is only around 30 minutes distance from Kubang Kerian. There are taxi outside the airport.

Although the surat tawaran did asks us to bring this document that document, but actually they didn't ask for those during registration. But since they ask us to bring, it's better for us to bring. Don't forget your SURAT TAWARAN and IC, they will ask for these, do bring along a pen or stationary.

For attire, you can just wear like for Form 6 or Matrikulasi, you know, formal. As long as it is KEMAS and SOPAN, it should be okay.
Boys can wear like this. You can also wear a blazer, of course you will look smarter than others. But lots of them didn't wear it.

Yup, I googled this, haha.

Girls, if you are a Malay girl, then I assume you will be wearing baju kurung. For other girls, there are who wear formal wear, but also a lot wear baju kurung. There are also girls who wear blazer, but really little people wore it.
Or with a skirt also can.

MMI is where there are a few stations, so you will have a few 1 to 1 sessions. There will be briefing before the interview about this MMI, so no worries.

For USM, there are 9 stations, which are 5 active stations (each have an interviewer, its a individual interview), 2 writing task stations and 2 rest stations (literally rest, yup, you just sit there, just rest). Each station consume 7 minutes, which is 2 minutes to read the questions and 5 minutes to answer.

For the active stations, the question paper will be outside the room. The buzzer will start and let you know you can start reading the question paper. After 2 minutes, the buzzer will ring again and you will enter the room. You will have 5 minutes to talk about the question given. (Don't forget to knock the door, greet and say thank you when you are leaving). The question paper will mention whether you have to answer in BM or English or choose either one.

Example questions for active stations:
1. A video is given (something like from this programme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkXlUNCN6VM, btw it was a short video) and then I have to say about the pengajaran or moral from the video (ANSWER IN FULLY BM)
2. Talk about one of your talent (ANSWER IN FULLY BM)
3. A scenario is given and then you have to talk to the person (actor). For this type of question, there will be the interviewer and actor in the room. The question that I got is : A student stole the exam paper, you are the head prefect (or something like that), the suspected student is now in the room, go in and talk to him.
4. A scenario is also given but you just have to talk to the interviewer. The question that I got is something like a girl didnt come for body checkup for a few years although she know that she have heart problem, one day she got admitted into the hospital by her parents (you know, emergency thing) then the emergency department is now in a really busy state so a doctor talked harshly to the girl and her family, something like you didnt come for check up and now you are making us really busy (the doctor said something really harsh and bad), so you have to say about your opinion towards the doctor the girl and her family member, like what would they feel.
5. Talk about a current disease in Malaysia.

For rest station, yup you just rest. There's nothing about it.

For writing task, you will be given question and you have to answer it but by writing it. There will be no interviewer for this section.

After these, there will be a group task where candidates will be randomly distributed in a 11 people group (plus minus 11). The question that my group got is Teenage Pregnancy, you will have 20 minutes to discuss and have to do a 3 minutes presentation regarding it.

So I think this is it for USM.

UM MBBS

For UM, you have to register for the BMAT exam before that. It is held around April. So if you didn't apply for BMAT exam, you are not qualified for the interview.

The location is inside the Faculty of Medicine building. There will be small notice boards there, so you can just follow the arrows on it.

The attire will be the same as USM. The MMI system is slightly different for UM.

There are 4 stations, but you will be going for two round (you will see each interviewer twice), so its actually 8 stations. For USM active stations, it is in a room, so you can't see other candidates or interviewers. But for UM, it is actually in something like a LONG classroom, so there will be a few sets of 4 stations, this means that many candidates will be interviewed at the same time, and you will see other interviewers and candidates. Its still an individual interview, but an open interview (everyone can see you). So you will hear other candidates talking (but you can't hear every word), its like you go to a really crowded place and everyone is talking, like really noisy.

So for each station is 5 minutes. There will be a buzzer for every 5 minutes, but it is not like USM where 2 min for reading, 5 min to answer. The whole 5 minutes here you have to read and answer. As soon as you finish reading, you can start answering. There are no writing stations, rest stations or group task. The whole interview session took about 40 minutes. It ends like just in an instant.

I don't really remember the questions for UM, sorry 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 From what I think, it's actually quite easy. The important thing is, you have to keep talking. Just keep talking. You can ask questions to your interviewer, like to confirm whether you got the question correct or not, for example, "So this means that if I'm in the shoe of the doctor or I'm in the shoe of the patient?" This is actually my little tips LOL to make it like you have a lot of things to say but actually not haha.

In conclusion, there's not much you can prepare for an MMI interview. But of course, you can prepare for self introduction, why are you interested to study medic, current disease in Malaysia (Diabetes, heart attack, Dengue). And also read more, reading will always help, maybe not now, but later.

Feel free to leave comments down below if you want to ask anything.
